Usva is a non-binary visual and performance artist. who primarily works through mixed media, incorporating painting, printmaking, video, and textile as central elements of their practice. Their aim for art is to create spaces for the audience to step into or points of interaction for them to engage with. In their work, unexpected and juxtaposing elements are combined: this often includes combining a range of images that are utopic and idealised with brutality and horror, e.g. idyllic dancing to traditional Russian music in combination with imagery of ruthless state propaganda. In making such connections, Usva aims to push people to become aware of and make sense of ongoing events.
